Should the CISO Report to the CIO?

During a Peer Roundtable for Senior Security Leaders cohort, a member shared their challenge with the reporting hierarchy within their organization.

After reporting to the CIO, CFO, and CSO while being CISO, I would highlight that when I was reporting to the CIO, it was essential to establish the Cyber Risk Review Board, which the CFO usually chaired.

When this construct was in place it was necessary also to define if the CIO or CISO was to be the accountable person to own a specific risk.
